The Sake Encounter is a reader-supported publication. Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. This page explains, in plain language, what that means and how it affects you (spoiler: it costs you nothing, and it doesn't change what I write).

What affiliate links are

When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, the retailer pays me a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same as if you had gone to the store directly. These commissions help cover the costs of running this site — the hosting, the bottles, and the hours at the counter.

What never changes

• I only recommend sake I have actually tasted and vessels I have actually used, or clearly labeled equivalents when the exact item isn't available outside Japan.
• I tell you a product's limits, not just its charms. If a bottle didn't land for me, I say so.
• No retailer reviews, edits, or approves my content before publication. No one pays for a positive review.
• If a product was provided to me free of charge for review, I disclose that clearly in the article itself.
